Healthy Snacking-Yogurt Melts
March 1st, 2012
This week I’ve been surfing the net for healthy snack alternatives. I found this healthy snack on Pinterest and new immediately that my 3 Jewels would love it.
Here is how we made our very own yogurt melts.
We used a 10cc medicine syringe to drop the yogurt buttons onto a sheet of wax paper. Remember to get the kids involved in this part of the process.
We chose vanilla yogurt but you can use which ever yogurt suits your fancy.
You could also tint the yogurt with food coloring, as an added touch (thought of this after production had started). Finally, pop them into the freezer for about 1 hour and enjoy.
And the taste test….
Kid approved!
Multiplication Game
February 23rd, 2012
This month, Sapphire is working on learning her times tables.
At our house, we’re not huge fans of ”flash card” style learning, however, good old fashion memorization appears to be the easiest method of learning to multiply. To put a little spin on things, we decided to come up with this challenging game, while we practice memorizing the times tables. (As if memorizing the multiplication tables wasn’t challenging enough, right?)
We made some homemade flash cards from cardboard.
Simple enough.
Once the player comes up with the right answer, they have to shoot the ball into the hole corresponding with the answer.
So parents, the lesson the day~Kids don’t have to practice their times tables while sitting at the kitchen table.
Surviving The Mommy Mafia-Part 3
February 18th, 2012
Given that 29.6 is the new average age of a first time mom, I was rather young when I belly-flopped Sapphire into the gene pool. Naive and completely unprepared for the gargantuan responsiblity of parenting another human being, I was 24 when my life changed “FOREVER”.
It took several months to adjust to my loss of independence, my awkward new body and my demanding new role.
It’s taken 8 years to climatize myself to the insane subculture known as the Mommy Mafia. Ah yes, the Mommy Mafia. It’s been awhile since I blogged about this fiercely competetive and relentlessly judgemental cartel of moms. The group of “soccer” moms who talk about their child’s never-ending diaper rash and the moms who brag about their child who walked at 9 months. The same chaty, bitchy, passive-aggressive, completely injudicial group of women drawn together because they’ve all pushed a human being out of their vagina.
Last weekend, I attended a birthday party with Sapphire and Pearl. A very special 1st birthday, or rather, congratulations you survived 365 days of parenting celebrtion. It was absolutely lovely and we had a wonderful time. The party room was packed tighter than a new mom’s diaper bag. At a quick glance, there had to have been twenty 1 year olds, all running, crawling, scooting and rolling around the interlocking foam mats.
Where were the moms? Huddled in a corner comparing notes.
That’s when things got ugly! Let me explain.
Guest Post~Lisa from Party Works
January 20th, 2012
3 Jewels In My Crown would like to welcome Lisa from Party Works. Lisa is a representative of the popular online party supply store, Party Works. Lisa has written several blog posts about putting together a theme party for any occassion. Today she is here to talk about her ideas for a Candy Land themed birthday party. For more inspirational ideas, I’ve linked to Candy Land pin boards on the ever popular site, Pinterest.
Unless your kiddo is dead set on having a Super Mario birthday party, there are a lot of thematic options, that will allow you to make the decorations for yourself. It all starts with the cake. Once a theme is selected, the cake is the key factor that ties the rest of the decorations and flare together. One year we did a Candy Land theme for our five-year-old daughter’s party and having a Candy Land cake as a centerpiece looked great.

How To Protect Your Children From Viewing Inappropriate Images and Videos Online
November 2nd, 2011
Understandably, most parents are concerned about their children accidentally viewing inappropriate content on the Internet.
Last weekend, I discovered just how easy it is for young children to inadvertendly view inappropriate images and videos online.
Sapphire was watching this funny You Tube Video. She’s probably watched it several hundred times before, unfortunately, this time she accidentally wandered from this video and unintentionally found a video that is completely inappropriate for young children. Call me naive but I was horrified at how easily this had occurred. I knew immediately, I had to figure out how I could best protect my children from viewing inappropriate material online.
After researching this common parental complaint, I learned that there are several approaches to protecting children from viewing unwanted materials online. {read more}
Simone France Skin Care Products Review
October 31st, 2011
Did you know that there is no single disease that causes more psychological trauma and more general insecurity than does acne, otherwise known as inflammatory skin disease.
In past posts, I’ve openly discussed my ongoing insecurities, specifically in relationship to my acne and acne scarring. I’ll be the first to admit, I spend way too much time dressing to hide the things I hate about myself and choosing makeup that disguises my biggest insecurity; problem skin. For years, I’ve been secretly jealous of people who have perfectly clear skin. Although 85% of people suffer from acne, I foolishly convince myself that I’m the only one.
So, you can imagine my excitement when I was contacted by a representative from the Simone France Skin Care team.
Like many bloggers, I regularly receive offers to participate in product reviews, in exchange for a blog post about the product I am reviewing. I quite literally choose to turn down about 90% of them for various reasons. {time, commitment, the fact that I’m brutally honest} However, this was an opportunity that I eagerly dove into, face first. {pardon the pun}
