How To Watermark A Photo For Online Publishing

picknik overlayblog

Let’s start by explaining what a watermark is.  A watermark is a visible embedded overlay on a digital photo consisting of text or a logo.  It is extremely important to watermark any photos you publish online, including social media forums such as Facebook.  A watermark adds a form of protection to your photos and discourages unauthorized use.  It’s not foolproof but it does make it more difficult for someone to claim a photo as their own.

You can download software to watermark your photos or you can use the image editors that you may already have.  I use picnik and photobucket.

Take for example this photo that has my embedded crown overlay.  {*note*This logo is property of Three Jewels In My Crown}

Here’s how I accomplished the final watermark on this photo.

untitled How To Watermark A Photo For Online Publishing

1.  I uploaded my photo and logo into photobucket.  In this case, it’s the blackberries from another post I published recently and my crown logo.

2.  Select the layers tab.  The arrow in the picture below points to where you’ll find the layers tab.

4.  Adjust the opacity of your logo by selecting the opacity button.

5.  Finally, click on the “select all” tab to join both layers.  Then save to your computer.  It’s as easy as that.

Here’s how you can add a text watermark in picnik.

1.  Upload a photo into picnik.   Select the “create” tab at the top and the add your text.  As you can see, I added the text “three jewels, just as an example.

2.  When you add your text, the text properties box with pop up.  To create a watermark effect,  select “advanced options” and “overlay”.  Then adjust the fade button to suit the picture.   Save as usual.  Very easy!

These are two quick and easy ways to watermark your digital photos.  I’m glad you stopped by today and I’d love to hear from you.  Leave me a comment.  What did you eat today?  What’s the weather like where you are? Anything really, I just love to hear from my readers!
